One of the biggest European showcase festivals, ESNS, encourages artists to apply.
With its aim to highlight European talent, Dutch showcase and conference ESNS once again announces an application round for musicians. The festival has become a fertile ground for emerging artists, helping them to melt the ice of the music industry. Here are a few examples.
Arlo Parks (UK)
Before becoming the overall winner of the Mercury Prize in 2021, London-based singer Arlo Parks performed in Groningen a year earlier. At that time, she was only 19.
Trupa Trupa (Poland)
Polish indie collective Trupa Trupa played at ESNS in 2017. Since then, they have been touring Europe and gained a cult following. Their last year’s album B Flat A was reviewed by Pitchfork, describing the record as more sophisticated than simply “rant’n’roll post-punk” it might seem to be at the first spin.
Altin Gün (Turkey, Netherlands)
Formed in 2016, Turkish psychedelic rockers Altin Gün are now favourites of open-air events all around the globe. Their appearance at Eurosonic in 2021 helped them to reach out to the wider circles of the industry. It was followed by shows at Primavera Sound, Wide Awake and End of the Road, to name just a few.
Eurosonic Noorderslag will take place from 17 to 20 January 2024 in Groningen. More information is on the official website.
